KNIT NATION HERE WE COME!

by Alice on 17 July 2010

Hello! My name is Ruth Chester, founder of the online woolly emporium that is The Little Knitting Company; formed early in 2008 as a result of the frustration caused by not being able to readily source a choice of 100% wool for a particular project that I was working on.

For me, The Little Knitting Company is like a wonderful obsession, that’s tremendous fun to do. Hunting through an Aladdin’s cave full of beautifully textured yarns, in every colour imaginable is always a thrill. You really can’t beat the smell of a vast warehouse full of the stuff – it’s a heady mix indeed.

Since starting the company, our family has expanded by one more, he was born last July and so our home and business life is always on the go. Our daughter started school last September and without the support of my husband, the enterprise would not be where it is today.

I’ll be assisted at Knit Nation by Françoise who is an avid sock knitter and general all round knitaholic. We are really looking forward to showing you the hand-dyed and painted cashmere, superfine kid mohair and other autumn/winter additions. Some new knitted designs will be on display as well as a gorgeous new rubberwood swift. There will be plenty of Rosewood and Subabul knitting needles, DPNs and buttons too.

STOP PRESS – we will have a limited supply of Blackthorn DPNs; sets of five 6in long (15.25cm) needles in sizes 1.5mm, 1.75mm, 2mm, 2.25mm, 2.75mm and 3.25mm.

Renaissance Dyeing

July 9, 2010

Our first vendor guest blog post, from Andie of Renaissance Dyeing. I remember at a very early age, about 6 or so, collecting wool from the barbed wire fences near my Cornish home. I used to put this into jam jars of water with bright flowers and leave them in the sun. I met natural [...]

At first glance, Clara seems quiet and reserved, a little shy even. But then she walks into her class and as soon as she starts to talk a charming, knowledgeable and funny teacher blooms into being, with a hint of wild child still in her.  We probably all know Clara best for her Knitters Review [...]
